Johnston Run Quality Control Sample Pick Up

Event Information: Johnston Run Quality Control Sample Pick Up, November 11, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania

On Sunday, November 11, I went with ALLARM’s Assistant Director, Jinnie Monismith, to pick up some quality control water samples from the Johnston Run monitoring group. The Johnston Run volunteers were trained in February of this year. It was wonderful to meet one of the Johnston Run volunteers, Liz George. Liz has been monitoring since she was trained in February and was part of the study design process that led to the development of the Johnston Run monitoring program.

It is fascinating to see how ALLARM and the volunteers work together by meeting up with water samples and giving us their results so that we can perform quality control tests on the samples. We test the samples using the same equipment as the volunteers in order to compare the results to ensure that they are using the equipment properly and getting good results. In the future, I hope to get to know more volunteers and learn more about the quality of their streams.
