Civil Liberties and Human Rights

Hello again!

I’m going to attempt to keep up on these blog entries from now on (attempt being the key word). The purpose of this particular blog WAS to post pictures from last night’s very successful (if I do say so myself) Learning Community Event, however, I am for some reason not able to make them come up as anything but enormous (there is no thumbnail option, if you’re wondering), so here’s the link to the facebook page, which has all the pictures:

The movie was, to say the least, a little intense, but I’m glad you all were able to watch it and have a short discussion afterward. I hope you like the pictures… I felt like my mother when I was taking all of them… she’s notorious with a camera. In fact I feel I should apologize for having been so annoying.

A quick update on the events for September… I have postponed the Indian Dinner night to some weekend in October, since September seems a little jam-packed to me. I hope that’s okay with everyone… I’ll be sure to try to plan it on a day when everyone can come.

That’s all for now… be sure to check your e-mail or the Learning Community Calendars (either through the link on the Facebook page or the ones posted in your halls) for a few lectures that will be occuring over the next two weeks. They are mandatory, so be sure you know about them. As always, I’m here if you need anything, just let me know.

Have a great week!
-Bryna

P.S. You didn’t think I was going to forget the Random Question, did you? This one comes courtesy of Andrew Swanson (known hilariously to some as Headbandrew):

If you could pick an actor/actress to play SOMEONE ELSE in the Learning Community, who would it be and why? ((be nice))

Hey!  I have finally gotten around to writing yet another blog entry… sorry it has taken me so long.  I am, however, very excited about the few people who decided to comment on the last one… very nice, Andrea, Nina and Veronica.  Matt, here’s your shoutout: try actually reading the blog, so you can qualify for the free batch of cookies at the end of the semester.  :)

I have to write a quick note about the last Learning Community event– you guys were great.  I thought the discussion was really good, you guys are definitely a talkative bunch.  Which is, of course, a good thing.

So who’s excited about the next Learning Community event?  It’s this Friday (September 12th) at 5:00pm in Weiss 235.  We’re going to be watching The Road to Guantanamo followed by a Mexican Dinner and discussion.  A regular discussion, I mean, not a Mexican one.

As for the much anticipated Indian Dinner I am planning for the 19th of September… I am attempting to contact the restaurant that should be bringing in the food, and Pallavi already has a good idea about the film she wants us to watch.  It should be a lot of fun.

On the 20th of September, the day after the Indian Dinner, we are going to be having a Drayer Talent Show.  Given the fact that we have a ridiculously talented bunch on our floor, I am really looking forward to seeing you all in your element.  Sam the CA has told me that I have to participate with the rest of the RA’s, but of course I’m going to try to get out of it.

Alright, I think that’s all I have for now.  Look forward to seeing me around with a camera, because I’m supposed to be taking fun pictures of you guys to post on this blog.

As for the Random Question of the Week: … Chris kind of stole my thunder with his whole white board deal in the guys’ hall… so…

If you could have one actor/actress play you in the film of your life story, who would it be and why?

See you all around.

Hello everyone! Welcome to the very first Civil Liberties and Human Rights blog. I hope you choose to visit this site fairly regularly so I can keep you updated on all of the neat stuff that will be going on with the Learning Community.

First things first: my name is Bryna, and I am in room 118 on the first floor of Drayer… feel free to come see me if you need anything at all. I am here as a resource to you guys and am always willing to help if you need anything. (If I’m not there my roommate Kim may be… she won’t bite. In fact you should go introduce yourself.)

I am currently making the rounds to everyone’s rooms… it’s taking me a while, given the fact that you guys have just about every spare moment scheduled for the next few days… I will get there, though, I promise. If you are NOT on the first floor of Drayer, I may be having a hard time finding your room, so it may take me a little while longer. Come see me if you don’t feel like waiting for me to find where you live. The basement of Drayer is a mystery to me.

Other than that… our first Learning Community event is Wednesday, August 27th. We’ll be watching the movie “Rendition” starring Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal. Get excited. We will also be having dinner and a discussion afterwards. Here is my question to you all: what type of food do you want? In my meeting with Professor Pohlman he mentioned something about pizza getting old after a while… so what do you think? Should we stick with the classics or try something new? Leave a comment and let me know.

Thanks for reading… I hope people actually decide to look at this page.

Random Question of the Week: If you could have ANY band write a soundtrack to your life, who would it be?
