Manny Machado, third baseman for the Baltimore Orioles, recently had knee surgery this past Monday after being carted off the field in Petersville, FL on September 23rd. However, to Machado’s luck the injury he sustained was not as bad as it looked. Expecting results showing a torn MCL or ACL, Manny was pleased that it was an injury to the MPFL, which is common in younger athletes. MPFL is the Medial Patellofemoral Ligament, which attaches to the platella to keep it from slipping into the outer part of the knee.
His Doctor, Neal. S. ElAttrache, is also a consultant to the Mighty Ducks, LA Lakers, and the PGA Tour. With at least a sixth month recovery for this type of injury to the knee, Manny is most likely to miss the beginning of the 2014 season.
