Biographical Information:

A prominent member of the Clarksdale community, William Luckett, Jr. was born and raised in the town has practiced law there since 1975. He retains part ownership in many of the town’s tourist oriented businesses. He co-owns the highly acclaimed restaurant Madidi and the Ground Zero Blues Club with his business partner and friend, Morgan Freeman. Luckett also takes leadership roles in many community oriented boards and organizations in Clarksdale.

Interview Information:

During the interview, Luckett discusses his memories of the Civil Rights Movement in Clarksdale, and how race relations have progressed since then. He details his close relationship with Civil Rights leader Aaron Henry. Luckett also went on to discuss the history of Blues music in Clarksdale, and the role that the Blues plays in tourism today. He also touches on the controversial Mississippi State flag.
