Biographical Information:

Born in Ginsberg Township, near King William’s Town, Lamla Jack later attended the University of Fort Hare to study music. Today he teaches a class in music, arts, and culture to students in the Transkei.

Interview Information:

Jack speaks about blending traditional Xhosa culture and music with other influences, such as technology and music theory. The interview also covers the importance of traditional musical genres like gospel, but also the importance of rap and R & B to the younger generations of South Africans. Jack also talks about life under apartheid, but does not share any of his political beliefs because he states that he has never become involved with politics, looking to religion instead.
