Biographical Information:
Charles Butler was born and raised in call home, Mississippi. While growing up, he worked on his family’s farm and helped a maid of all work at the home of a white family. He attended integrated primary and secondary schools, and later went to Coahoma Agricultural High School, then Jackson State University. He currently works as a counselor at Coahoma Community College.
Interview Information:
Mr. Butler details his experience in integrated educational systems, as well as the history of Coahoma Community College. He discusses his family’s involvement in the civil rights movement, the role of music in the civil rights movement, and poverty in the Delta in general and in Coahoma County specifically.
