Care options

  • Palliative care:  Care focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness.
  • Hospice care:  Holistic symptom management for patients with a prognosis of 6 months or less; includes care for family members.
  • Hospice’s swinging door:  Hospice patients who live beyond the expected 6-month time frame can be re-certified to continue on in hospice. Some patients actually “graduate” from hospice, then re-enter hospice again later when symptoms return.
  • Spiritual care: Often an important part of helping patients cope with serious illness.
  • Bereavement support: An important dimension of care focused on family and friends after a loved one passes.
