Cenabis bene, mi Fabulle (Catullus 13)

Catullus 13, Cenabis bene, mi Fabulle, discussed and read by Katrina Bartell

Cenabis bene, mi Fabulle, apud me
paucis, si tibi di fauent, diebus,
si tecum attuleris bonam atque magnam
cenam, non sine candida puella
et uino et sale et omnibus cachinnis.
haec si, inquam, attuleris, uenuste noster,
cenabis bene; nam tui Catulli
plenus sacculus est aranearum.
sed contra accipies meros amores
seu quid suauius elegantiusue est:
nam unguentum dabo, quod meae puellae
donarunt Veneres Cupidinesque,
quod tu cum olfacies, deos rogabis,
totum ut te faciant, Fabulle, nasum.

Lovely! I just was looking for an online text of the poem to add to a lesson plan, and voila! Here you are reading it aloud – my students will appreciate hearing your discussion and reading even more than just listening to me! I think they’ll be inspired to record their own readings of ROman poetry. So fun! Multas Gratias!
P.S. If Elise Friedland is still at Dickinson, please tell her Salve! from Houston Joy – now in COlorado. 🙂
