Interview with Alison Bechdel

This is a 2-year old interview, but I thought it really gave some neat insight into the process of making Fun Home, like why it’s told in a cyclical format and how Bechdel at first wanted it to be black and white. She talks a little about her family’s reaction to the book’s publication, and her integration into (dare I say) mainstream comics, as well as some up and coming works. And as an added bonus, there’s a shout out to Dickinson College! Woot woot!

That’s interesting because I was wondering to myself one day why she chose to use that blue-greenish colour to shade her comic instead of black and white. I agree totally with what she said about using the chaos of our everyday life to churn out a story being fascinating. I think that’s also true for her memoir…
