Course Abstract

History 311, “American Slavery,” with Professor Matthew Pinsker, meets at Dickinson College during fall 2017 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9am at the House Divided Studio on 61 N. West Street.  Course texts include Eric Foner’s Gateway to Freedom (2015), Peter Kolchin’s American Slavery (2003 ed.), and James Oakes’s Freedom National (2013), as well as various articles and digital resources such as the House Divided Project.  Students in this advanced seminar will study the historiography of slavery and antislavery and work toward building a series of online exhibits that will help explore the connection between Dickinson College and the rise and fall of American slavery.
