1914: Emancipation

This poem/song copyrighted by T.F. Hubbard links the temperance cause to Emancipation – the language of freedom and slavery linked to drink is interesting although race is not explicitly mentioned. “I holy war to fight, against this monsters trite, and shackles break,” Hubbard wrote; “This is the hope of all, to see the traffic fall, and not one slave, then wave from sea to sea, by union temperance plea, Old Glory’s jubilee, our nation free!”
