Built by students for students, S.O.L. is generating carbon-free electricity to the grid.

After rummaging through the facilities warehouse, Justin found four pristine solar photovoltaic (PV) panels lying unused. Determined to learn more about PV technology and make this knowledge widely accessible, Justin worked with Facilities Management, various space planning administrators and the Center for Sustainability Education to design his idea. After months of research, planning and approvals, S.O.L. was installed on Britton Plaza during the summer 2014 with help from Facilities Management and student workers. S.O.L.’s meter displays the amount of electricity generated by this system since it’s installation in kilowatt-hours (kWh). Students can use the power outlets on the plaza to charge your device with renewable energy, and help Dickinson reach our shared goal of carbon neutrality.
