Edvan Pereira Brito
Edvan Pereira Brito was a Visiting Instructor in Spanish and Portuguese at Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA 2014-2015. He is also a PhD candidate in linguistics at Georgetown University. Edvan completed two master’s degrees, one in linguistics from Georgetown University and another in mass communication and media studies from Howard University. He got his bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate in Portuguese and linguistics from the of University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. Among his publications is the article “Comparative study of affirmative action keywords in Brazilian Portuguese and American English,” which was published in these two languages as a chapter in the book Pictures and Mirrors: Race and Ethnicity in Brazil and the United States. More recently, Edvan published an article entitled “Strategies of racial identity negotiation of Brazilian immigrants in the United States” in Vozes dos Vales, a major Brazilian academic journal. He currently teaches at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA.
Anthony Justin Barnum
Anthony Justin Barnum comes from the rural Arkansas community of Pine Snag, where he spent many adventure filled days with his younger brother in the woods and farms of his family. He worked on an archeological dig in Israel and spent a year studying in France while completing a B.A. in International Relations and Global Studies at Hendrix College. He holds a M.A. in Sociology and a M.A. in French from the University of Arkansas. He spent two years in Cape Verde, West Africa teaching at the Universidade de Cabo Verde and the Instituto Superior de Educação while in the Peace Corps. He’s taught at the University of Central Arkansas, Trinity Washington University, and Arkansas State University-Beebe and Heber Springs. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from Howard University in Washington, D.C in 2014. He has studied and conducted research through a US-Brazil Race, Development, and Social Inequality Fellowship. He is a visiting assistant professor at Dickinson College.
