WELCOME TO THE LUCE SEMESTER BLOG!

Welcome to the Luce Semester 2009 blog!

Hello friends, families, Luce alums, and colleagues!  Our watershed-based integrated field semester (funded by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation and therefore called the Luce Semester) involves three weeks of travel from Carlisle, PA to coastal Louisiana and back, from November 3 – November 23.  We would love for you to read our web log and we’d love to hear from you.  If you would like to see more pictures, check out our flickr site:

    Hey!!!!
I hope you guys are having a great trip. You probably saw mountain top removal today, don’t get too discouraged. The problems may seem daunting, but you can always do something, even if it is small, like sending a letter to your representatives or tell your parents to buy energy from renewable sources.
But on a lighter note, you will be in Louisiana soon enough! If you have time try to go to the Indian Market and the French Market (which you have to get up early for).

An update at the Treehouse is Phil has not successfully move in, but I am in the process of trying to get him to stay in my room. We are cooking chili with lamb from the farm. All is well here.
Well have fun on your travels and enjoy the car rides because there are a lot of them.
    LUCE Love,
    Kalyn and Phil

    WOW!
It’s truly inspiring to see how you are taking the classroom academic experience and both applying it and distilling it in the ‘real world’.
Thank you for sharing your journey….I am going to send this link on to my classmates in the UVA Sorensen Institute Political Leadership Program in Virginia.
Perhaps some of them might be in office and ready to listen when you graduate.
    Stay safe!
    :) A. Young (Brendan’s Mom)
