Innovative Success: the Rainbow Loom

This web article outlines the hard work and element of luck behind the popular children’s product the Rainbow Loom. It is an excellent example of innovative success and the creation of a market. It will be a good example for our later discussion of monopoly.

I found this article interesting because it is so amazing how tastes and preferences shift the demand curve so rapidly. It will be interesting to watch what happens to this company as the consumers start to loose interest and turn to another product.

As evident in the summer camp I worked at, the demand for the rainbow loom increased drastically as the summer progressed. By entering a market with limited competition and high demand by teenage girls, this proved to be a great investment. As time has progressed many alternatives have entered the market, an example of oligopoly.
