President Johnson and Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara debate the strategy of the United States in Vietnam. Johnson demanded to develop a new strategy that would yield greater results, which showed his willingness to put American soldiers in Vietnam. A continuation of the containment policy, the United States sent ground troops to aid the anti-communist South Vietnam, in what would be a long and bloody conflict.
