What is Love Your Body Week?

Every spring, Dickinson College dedicates a week to self-love and self-acceptance. Dickinson’s Love Your Body Week is a week packed with events that surround this important topic, bringing positivity to the student body and student bodies in distinct and extraordinary ways each year. This year, Love Your Body Week 2017 takes place from Monday, February 20 to Friday, February 24. Listed below are our featured events! Be sure to attend some—there’s an event for everybody!

Kickoff Soiree

Monday, February 20 Social Hall  7:00pm-9:00pm

This year, Love Your Body Week begins with a Kickoff Soiree to start the week off right and get excited about the following events! The event is hosted by multiple campus organizations and will have music, food, and performances from student groups.

Yoga for Every Body

Tuesday, February 21 HUB Dance Studio  12:00pm-1:00pm

This event is led by local yoga instructor Michele Landis, the owner of Simply Well Yoga. This yoga class is for everyone no matter your level, body type, or age. If you don’t have a mat of your own, no problem! We’ve got extras, so come join!

Trans Salon

Tuesday, February 21 Allison Community Room  5:00-6:30pm

This inclusive discussion will surround bodily experience and understanding through feminist, queer, and trans perspectives. It’s also a great opportunity to learn about issues and struggles that you can help be a part of the solution for! Read up before you go.

Pleasurable Sex

Tuesday, February 21 Denny 317  7:00-8:00pm

This program was so popular it was specifically requested by students again this year! The presentation goes over pleasurable sex practices including safe sex, consent, use of toys, and similar additional topics. Attend to learn more!

Dickinson Rising: Live at the Library

Wednesday, February 22 Waidner-Library Lobby  12:00pm

A part of the global One Billion Rising revolution against violence towards and exploitation of women, Dickinson is hosting this multi-arts event in solidarity! Be a part of the solution by being a part of the resistance!

This program features author and poet Sonya Renee Taylor, using popular education, performance poetry, and media examples to introduce the concept of body terrorism and radical self-love.

“Fat Chance: The Line Between Health and Shame is Becoming Tragically Thin.” Discussion Led by Professor Amy Farrell

Friday, February 24  Althouse 106  12:00-1:00pm

This discussion, based on Professor Farrell’s enlightening essay, will focus on society’s obsession with weight and some consequences of it. Read the essay before attending to be best prepared for what is sure to be an engaging conversation!

10 Tools for Radical Self-Love with Sonya Renee Taylor

Friday, February 24  Allison Community Room  4:30-6:30pm
