A flurry of bright colors, the beat of drums, the screech of flutes, the chatter of the crowd and the yell of street vendors calling customers, that was my first experience at a Japanese festival. People were wearing yukata and kimono and walking down the street buying food from the stalls with their families and friends. The atmosphere was so joyful I couldn’t help but smile. Then came the fireworks. Although I had seen fireworks before this was the first time I had seen them this closely. They were spectacular. A small spark would fly up into the sky and explode everywhere. At that moment there nothing more calm than munching on a burned squid with my friends and looking up at the sky observing the lights.
