On March 28th, Dickinson’s chapter of Sigma Delta Pi welcomed 21 new inductees. Sigma Delta Pi is the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica). Dickinson’s chapter began in 1962 and since then many Dickinsonians, both students, professors, and visiting international students, have joined. As part of the induction ceremony each inductee received a red candle which they lit and later blew out, both actions carrying symbolic meaning. Additionally, the inductees were awarded a certificate and a pin bearing the royal seal of Fernando and Isabel, signed the official register, and received a red carnation, the Society’s flower. Anya Aboud ’16, Spanish major and Sigma Delta Pi member, officiated the ceremony.
