Morning at the Arran House
September 8, 2010 by Mary Kate
This is where I am right now:
It’s not quite as sunny as when I took this picture – it’s actually morning here and I’m having tea and porridge for breakfast in the garden. Looks like it’ll be a bit of a gloomy day. At least the Tube will be open again, though! Yesterday Tube workers were on strike for the day and transportation was a nightmare.
In speaking of the Tube, for our group project I’m working on putting together a walking tour of artwork on Tube stops. FINALLY, my tour guiding experience will be actually useful! (Just kidding, Molly.) There’s a lot of absolutely beautiful mosaics and murals on the underground walls, and Transport for London (TFL) is always working on something new. Next up: TFL is polling customers to ask what they daydream about on the Tube, and they’re going to turn the answers into murals and exhibits. I’ll take some pics of the stops today and share them with you later.
On another note, I stirred up some controversy with my opinions about Westminster Abbey on our course’s blog. Everyone’s welcome to participate in it, by the way – http://blogs.dickinson.edu/norwichhumanities/ Members of our class just blog about our experiences and perceptions of London’s culture. It gets pretty critical at points – not entirely just “We love London” posts. Check it out, comment if you want – after two weeks now of non-stop togetherness, we’d love to hear from anyone else
Seriously, though, the group’s getting really close. I’m so happy to be here with everyone. Cheers!
