A person\u2019s skin<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">\u00a0represents who they are and their history. A black person\u2019s hands were a threat and a means of expressing themselves. They could use <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">their hands to work hard and advance in life, theoretically<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">. After this, her passage about loving oneself shifts and reads like she is speaking directly to the reader<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">. \u201c<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">You <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">got to love it, you!\u201d<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">\u00a0Baby Suggs shouts (Morrison 104).<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">\u00a0She mentions flesh again, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">flesh that needs to be loved<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">\u201d<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">\u00a0breaking down the body: feet that need rest, backs that need support, and arms that are strong. Strength, resting, and <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">support and all connected as are feet, arms, and the spine of the human body.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">\u00a0The spine, which is the center of the body, needing support emphasizes that people cannot make it through life alone. Community and lifting others up is important, as is lifting oneself up in times when they feel alone. The passage wraps up <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">narrowing the target audience again and specifying back to its original<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">. \u201cThe dark, dark liver\u2014love it<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">, love it&#8230;\u201d, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">C<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">aucasi<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">an skin<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\"> is prized<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW225256867 BCX4\">\u00a0and the darker of a skin tone that someone has the less human he was treated. She encourages laughing, crying, and dancing. Flushing one\u2019s emotions out.
