Ultimately mac’n’ cheese taught African Americans to be adaptable and figure out how to face any hurdles thrown at them. They took a simple luxury dish and transformed it into a meal for any occasion. The dish is a significant point in the development of African American culture, so much so that there is a great deal of pressure placed on the person designated to make the mac ‘n’ cheese. If a person is selected to make the dish it is an honor.  There are many ways to make mac ‘n’ cheese but once a family has found a recipe that they like it will be passed down for generations without change. Whether the mac ‘n’ cheese is made from scratch or made from a box it brings families together and creates warm memories. African Americans did not create macaroni and cheese, but they adopted the recipe and transformed it into mac ‘n’ cheese.
