First, we enjoyed the immersive experience the museum offered about life in the German Democratic Republic \u2013 East Germany. Afterwards, we had the chance to receive first-hand insights from Dr. Hans Modrow, the last chairman of the DDR Council of<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2606\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/bremen\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG_5578.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2606\" class=\"wp-image-2606 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/bremen\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG_5578-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/bremen\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG_5578-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/bremen\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG_5578-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/bremen\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG_5578-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/bremen\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG_5578-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2606\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meeting with Hans Modrow (middle)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Ministers. We also visited the infamous Stasi prison &#8220;Hohensch\u00f6nhausen&#8221; and the Stasi archives in the former central building of this seceret service &#8211; where the office of its last chief, Erich Mielke, is still intact. A tour through the underground Cold War bunkers rounded up this trip into the times of the once divided city.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2607\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/bremen\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG_5715.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2607\" class=\"wp-image-2607 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/bremen\/files\/2017\/12\/IMG_5715-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2607\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In the Reichstag (parliament)<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Later in the week, we turned to current political times by visiting both the Chancellery and the \u201cReichstag\u201d with a guided tour. We were allowed entry to the state department (Ausw\u00e4rtiges Amt) where we met the referent of the governmental Coordinator for Transatlantic Cooperation who not only answered our questions on the current state of German-American relations, but even showed us around the house and took us to the roof to enjoy a wonderful view.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Besides, we seized the opportunity to entertain ourselves with the extensive activities and sights Berlin has to offer, e.g. East Side Gallery, Museum Island, Deutsches Historisches Museum, christmas market, and, of course,
