1859: John Lindner is born in Newark, New Jersey<\/p>\n

1882: Became a member of the Reynolds Brothers advertisement firm and shoe manufacturers in Utica, New York ((Trade Card Advertiser: Reynolds Brothers Fine Shoes, Utica, New York, A Pleasing Surprise by Mayer, Merkel & Ottmann Lith., New York.))<\/p>\n

1891: Lindner starts Lindner Shoe Company in Carlisle, Pennsylvania<\/p>\n

1898: Becomes president of the Borough Council of Carlisle, PA<\/p>\n

1902:\u00a0Lindner purchases land near West Louther Street and creates a park. \u00a0He holds Saturday evening concerts in which community members as well as students from Dickinson College and the Indian Training School are welcome. 1902: James Porter lays out the design for Lindner Park ((Cumberland County Historical Society and Hamilton Library Association. “Cumberland County History.” 3.2 (1986).))<\/p>\n

1903: Lindner presents the park to the city of Carlisle ((Progressive Americans of the Twentieth Century<\/em>. Chicago: Progressive Publishing Company, 1910.))<\/p>\n

October 17, 1910: Park is formally dedicated as a gift to the city. Captain Colwell Post dedicates two cannons to the park; these canons \u00a0damaged the U.S. navy in the battle of Manila Harbor during the Spanish-American War.\u00a0 The presence of these cannons was meant to illicit sentimentalism and patriotism within the park.
