{"id":373,"date":"2014-09-05T06:22:53","date_gmt":"2014-09-05T06:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/cop20\/?p=373"},"modified":"2014-09-21T14:50:12","modified_gmt":"2014-09-21T14:50:12","slug":"who-would-like-to-turn-right-at-machu-picchu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/cop20\/2014\/09\/05\/who-would-like-to-turn-right-at-machu-picchu\/","title":{"rendered":"Who would like to turn right at Machu Picchu?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mark Adams describes Machu Picchu as a sublime sight. \u00a0From many google images (and I mean many) I too agree that it is quite a sublime site. \u00a0From steep hikes, the changing of altitudes, and the deep history that lies here, why should we not turn right at Machu Picchu?<\/p>\n<p>In Adams&#8217; book &#8220;Turn Right at Machu Picchu&#8221;, he narrates his adventure in retracing the steps of Hiram Bingham in the process of studying Bingham&#8217;s life and Incan history. \u00a0Bingham has been accused of stealing and just &#8220;rediscovering&#8221; Machu Picchu since there were people already living there once he got there. \u00a0Adams set out to discover what Machu Picchu <em>really<\/em> was.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout his journey, Adams encounters locals, comes across untouched Incan ruins, and a funny Australian guide John Leivers who wears the same clothes everyday. \u00a0He does an amazing job in weaving together two stories and adding a nice kick to it. \u00a0He truly discovered the lost city one step at a time.<\/p>\n<p>Not only am I excited for COP20, but Machu Picchu has been on my list of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\">UNESCO World Heritage Sites<\/a> to visit. \u00a0I am very happy and grateful that I have the opportunity to do two very wonderful things at such a young age.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_375\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-375\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/cop20\/files\/2014\/09\/Jo-Llama-Macchu-Picchu.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-375\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/cop20\/files\/2014\/09\/Jo-Llama-Macchu-Picchu-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"http:\/\/www.spinal-research.org\/events\/trek-the-inca-trail-to-machu-picchu-april-2013\/\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/cop20\/files\/2014\/09\/Jo-Llama-Macchu-Picchu-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/cop20\/files\/2014\/09\/Jo-Llama-Macchu-Picchu-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-375\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">http:\/\/www.spinal-research.org\/events\/trek-the-inca-trail-to-machu-picchu-april-2013\/<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mark Adams describes Machu Picchu as a sublime sight. \u00a0From many google images (and I mean many) I too agree that it is quite a sublime site. \u00a0From steep hikes, the changing of altitudes, and the deep history that lies here, why should we not turn right at Machu Picchu?
