{"id":1307,"date":"2009-12-09T09:16:34","date_gmt":"2009-12-09T13:16:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/copenhagen\/?p=1307"},"modified":"2009-12-09T09:16:34","modified_gmt":"2009-12-09T13:16:34","slug":"how-old-will-you-be-in-2050","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/copenhagen\/2009\/12\/how-old-will-you-be-in-2050\/","title":{"rendered":"How old will you be in 2050?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 458px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.global-changes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/Climate-Change-Justice.jpg\" alt=\"We Cannot Wait for Climate Justice\" width=\"448\" height=\"297\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">We Cannot Wait for Climate Justice<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Policy group is working to organize an event for The Future Generations event tomorrow.\u00a0 We hope to reserve a booth in order to both further our video research and give US youth the ability to write to their representatives back home to support the passage of new climate bills.<\/p>\n<p>The conference is such a great place to get involved and have your voice heard.\u00a0 We have been working in concert with the YOUNGOs which are an incredibly organized, talented, and driven group of youths.\u00a0 There is a meeting that we plan to attend this afternoon that is a policy organizing group: hopefully, we will be able to offer ome valuable feedback and insight :).<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, I went to a high-level event with my peers in which high ranking officials spoke to the international youth.\u00a0 After they had spoken, the youth who had helped to organize the meeting gave both of the speakers t-shirts saying &#8220;How old will you be in 2050?&#8221;\u00a0 That is when it dawned upon me: it is the youth that will feel the results of these decisions made here in Copenhagen.\u00a0 It is us that will feel the real effects, whether positive or negative.\u00a0 All the people making these decisions right now are going to be dead or quickly along their way by 2050.\u00a0 Therefore, it is our voice that needs to be heard.\u00a0 We are the future.\u00a0 If these people cannot step up to plate and make decisions that are ultimately going to determine the fate of the planet, it is we who have to take initiative.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t matter who you are, you have a vested interest in this problem.\u00a0 You don&#8217;t have to be an Environmental Studies major to care about your future.\u00a0 And your future is exactly what the outcome of the negotiations here in Copenhagen will determine.<\/p>\n<dl>\n<dt><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2496\/3971131928_0f81745871.jpg\" alt=\"Respect Human Rights\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Policy group is working to organize an event for The Future Generations event tomorrow.\u00a0 We hope to reserve a booth in order to both further our video research and give US youth the ability to write to their representatives back home to support the passage of new climate bills.
