{"id":1403,"date":"2009-12-14T05:41:41","date_gmt":"2009-12-14T09:41:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/copenhagen\/?p=1403"},"modified":"2009-12-14T05:41:41","modified_gmt":"2009-12-14T09:41:41","slug":"artificial-glaciers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/copenhagen\/2009\/12\/artificial-glaciers\/","title":{"rendered":"Artificial Glaciers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the high, cold deserts of the Tibetan Plateau, small glaciers are the primary source of water for small, poverty-stricken villages.\u00a0 The people living in these areas, which receive only about 50mm of rainfall a year and sustain temperatures as low as -30\u00b0C, are especially vulnerable to\u00a0 seasonal warming.\u00a0 With their small glaciers receding at an alarming rate of 25% in the past 20 years, these hardy populations are facing a mountainous task, since lack of funding and information make adaptation strategies very difficult to begin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/knowledge.allianz.com\/en\/news\/viewdetail\/tibet_glacial_shrink.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/knowledge.allianz.com\/nopi_downloads\/images\/sstock_tibetanlandscape_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"393\" height=\"264\" \/><\/a>Why <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/news\/specials\/popup\/how-it-works.htm\">Artificial Glaciers?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The technology for creating an artificial glacier at low elevations is simple, and can be replicated all over the world in locations that have:<\/p>\n<p>1. 4-5 months of winter<\/p>\n<p>2.
