DICKINSON SUMMER GREEK WORKSHOP: JULY 22<\/span><\/b>\u2013<\/span><\/b>26, 2024<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

For<\/span> the 2024 Dickinson Summer Greek Workshop <\/span>we will read<\/span> selections from <\/span>Xenophon<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s <\/span>Cyropaedia<\/span><\/i>, \u201cThe Education of Cyrus<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span> Xenophon’s consideration of the best education for a just ruler, often described as a “historical romance,” <\/span>contains elements of<\/span> biography, philosophy, history, fiction, and political science. The crown jewel of Xenophon’s literary output, the <\/span>Cyropaedia <\/span><\/i>enjoyed great popularity in Republican Rome, was considered essential reading by Scipio, Cicero, and Cato, and has much to offer Hellenists of every stripe.<\/span> \"Book<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Leading our workshop will be<\/span> Prof. Norman B. Sandridge (Howard University)<\/span>, author of <\/span>Loving Humanity, Learning, and Being Honored: The Foundations of Leadership in Xenophon’s Education of Cyrus <\/span><\/i><\/a>(Center for Hellenic S<\/span>tudies, 2012)<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop will take place on Zoom from 1:00 to 4:30<\/span> p.m.<\/span> EDT<\/span>. We hope that this format will allow participants from around the world to join us.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
