Bert Lott Joins DCC Editorial Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is a great pleasure to welcome <a href=\"http:\/\/greekandromanstudies.vassar.edu\/bios\/jolott.html\">Bert Lott<\/a> to the editorial board of DCC.\u00a0Bert is a<span style=\"color: #333333;font-size: 15.555556297302246px;font-style: normal;line-height: 26.666667938232422px\">n ancient historian with special interests in the Augustan Age of Rome, urbanism, early imperial epigraphy, and the interpretation of ancient documentary evidence.\u00a0<\/span>He received his B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, and his Ph.D from the University of Pennsylvania. He teaches historical and cultural studies as well as Latin and Greek language and literature at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vassar.edu\/\">Vassar College<\/a>, where he has been since 1997.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/dcc\/files\/2013\/05\/Bert-Lott-headshot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-469\" alt=\"Bert Lott headshot\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/dcc\/files\/2013\/05\/Bert-Lott-headshot-e1370875641801-223x300.jpg\" width=\"223\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/dcc\/files\/2013\/05\/Bert-Lott-headshot-e1370875641801-223x300.jpg 223w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/dcc\/files\/2013\/05\/Bert-Lott-headshot-e1370875641801-762x1024.jpg 762w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/dcc\/files\/2013\/05\/Bert-Lott-headshot-e1370875641801.jpg 842w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 223px) 100vw, 223px\" \/><\/a>Bert and I first met in the early 1990s when he was finishing his dissertation in Philadelphia and I was just starting my teaching career at nearby Swarthmore College.\u00a0Since then Bert has gone on to great things at Vassar, where is now Professor of Greek and Roman Studies. He is the author of two well-received books, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Neighborhoods-Augustan-Rome-Bert-Lott\/dp\/0521828279\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1370018734&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=J.+Bert+Lott\">The Neighborhoods of Ancient Rome<\/a> (Cambridge University Press, 2004), and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Death-Dynasty-Early-Imperial-Rome\/dp\/0521677785\/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1370018734&amp;sr=8-2&amp;keywords=J.+Bert+Lott\">Death and Dynasty in Early Imperial Rome: Key Sources, with Text, Translation, and Commentary <\/a>(Cambridge, 2012).<\/p>\n<p>As the second title implies, he has a strong interest in textual commentary, particularly on inscriptions. And he has been at the forefront of experimentation with the commentary genre in a classroom context as well. His Latin students at various levels write commentary on the texts they are reading, collaboratively.
