Sustainability is a defining characteristic of a Dickinson education. It is integrated into course work and embraced as a central goal by many student organizations. The Biking @ Dickinson initiative plays an important role in sustainability at Dickinson by promoting sustainable transportation, building community, and providing biking education to the campus.<\/p>\n

Biking @ Dickinson Initiatives and Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Handlebar<\/a><\/strong> is an on-campus teaching bike repair shop located in the basement of Davidson-Wilson Residence Hall along Dickinson Walk. Learn how to fix your own bike and volunteer to teach others and build Green Bikes<\/a>!<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Green Bikes<\/a><\/strong> program is an opportunity for students to borrow a bike from The Handlebar fleet for an entire semester. These bikes are built with reused bike parts by students, faculty, and staff who volunteer at The Handlebar<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Red Bikes<\/a><\/strong> program is run through DPS. Borrow a bike for the day for free!<\/p>\n

The Biking Listserv<\/strong> is a group of almost 300 community members who network about bike rides, trail maintenance, volunteer opportunities, and love of biking. \u00a0To subscribe to the biking mailing list, send an email to biking-request@lists.dickinson.edu<\/a>\u00a0with “subscribe” in the body of the message. Follow the instructions in the confirmation email to complete your subscription request. (To unsubscribe, send a message to\u00a0biking-request@lists.dickinson.edu<\/a>\u00a0with \u201cunsubscribe\u201d in the body.) Once subscribed, you can send e-mails to everyone on the list: simply mail to\u00a0<\/strong>biking@lists.dickinson.edu<\/a>!<\/p>\n

The Bike Storage<\/strong> program allows students to store their bikes in a safe, indoor location during winter and summer breaks.<\/p>\n
