Dickinson faculty pursuing digital projects with a geo-spatial component should make sure to consult with staff at the GIS lab.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the central issues and questions involved in the application of digital mapping to the humanities are articulated and explored in\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hastac.org\/forums\/visualizing-geography-maps-place-and-pedagogy\">Visualizing Geography: Maps, Place, and Pedagogy<\/a>, a\u00a0forum hosted by three <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hastac.org\/\">HASTAC <\/a>scholars. The potential of GIS for a wide variety of types of humanities scholarship is explored (with lots of examples) by\u00a0William A. Kretzschmar, Jr.,\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/dlsanthology.commons.mla.org\/gis-for-language-and-literary-study\/\">GIS for for Language and Literary Study<\/a>,&#8221; \u00a0in Kenneth M. Price and Ray Siemens, eds.,\u00a0<em>Literary Studies in the Digital Age: An Evolving Anthology<\/em>\u00a0(MLA Commons).<\/p>\n<p>GIS is far from the only tool available, however, and not the easiest one to use.
