We chose to research the differences in Gawain\u2019s characterization in <\/span><\/span>Gawain and the Green Knight <\/span><\/span>and Sir Thomas Malory\u2019s <\/span><\/span>Le Morte D\u2019Arthur. <\/span><\/span>We wanted to <\/span>discover how Gawain differed when written by different authors and if there were any aspects of his character that remain constant throughout both works. <\/span>To do so, we found the sections of <\/span><\/span>Gawain <\/span><\/span>and <\/span><\/span>Le Morte <\/span><\/span>that featured the most descriptions of Gawain<\/span> and his actions. <\/span>For <\/span><\/span>Gawain <\/span><\/span>we <\/span>identified<\/span> verses that specificall<\/span>y described Gawain and seemed indicative of his character. For <\/span><\/span>Le Morte <\/span><\/span>we isolated five words before and after each mention of Gawain\u2019s name.<\/span> Our goal was to figure out which <\/span>nouns, <\/span>adjectives<\/span>,<\/span> and adverbs appeared the most in descriptions of Gawain across both works and see how they lined up. <\/span>We <\/span>asked our computer science team members, <\/span>Vanessa Friedman and Amelia Harper, to compile all of the words used in the chosen sections of both works into an Excel file and order them by frequency.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span> We then made tables <\/span>containing<\/span> the top twenty relevant words from each text, <\/span>eliminating<\/span> filler words such as and, said, the, etc..<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
