{"id":506,"date":"2024-12-20T16:14:21","date_gmt":"2024-12-20T16:14:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/digitalmethodsforthehumanities2024\/?page_id=506"},"modified":"2024-12-20T16:40:07","modified_gmt":"2024-12-20T16:40:07","slug":"research-and-visualizations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/digitalmethodsforthehumanities2024\/digital-editions\/gawain-and-the-green-knight\/research-and-visualizations\/","title":{"rendered":"Research and Visualizations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">We chose to research the differences in Gawain\u2019s characterization in <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">Gawain and the Green Knight <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">and Sir Thomas Malory\u2019s <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">Le Morte D\u2019Arthur. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">We wanted to <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">discover how Gawain differed when written by different authors and if there were any aspects of his character that remain constant throughout both works. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">To do so, we found the sections of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">Gawain <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">and <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">Le Morte <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">that featured the most descriptions of Gawain<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">and his actions. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">For <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">Gawain <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">we <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">identified<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\"> verses that specificall<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW78250752 BCX4\">y described Gawain and seemed indicative of his character.
