It’s hard to believe that the start of another academic year here at Dickinson is a little over a week away. Here at Dining Services our summer was a busy one. Here’s a short look at what we’ve done this summer and where we’re headed going into the school year:
The Summer That Was
During the summer we’ve hosted several large camps both sponsored by Dickinson and by outside institutions. Our two major groups were the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and John Hopkins’ Center for Talented Youth. Each group spent six weeks on campus and utilized our dining facilities. Additionally we hosted Dickinson sports camps and other daily institutes, camps and event fairs.
Alumni Weekend was a major part of our June. We prepared food for multiple events and helped host alumni at our facilities. While a lot of work goes into Alumni Weekend, our staff enjoys seeing familiar faces and catching up with past students and families.
In July, members of our management and culinary staffs got the chance to attend The National Association of College and University Food Services’ National Convention held in Baltimore, Md. Our staff paid special attention to information sessions on sustainability and college farm utilization. In one-on-one conversations with other attendees, Dickinson staff shared our experiences with these topics. Attendees also visited a large vender fair where they browsed through innovative foods, equipment and services for campus dining.
We’ve welcomed several key new members to our management staff. Jennifer Whitcomb has joined us as assistant director and Kim Foltz was promoted to catering manager. Dining Services has also added a brand manager in Ryan Houck.
What’s Coming This Fall
We have multiple additions planned heading into the fall, most notably our new location ‘The Juice Box’. Look for announcements in the coming days regarding menu changes and new offerings.
