SAG-AFTA agreed to a new deal with AMPTP.
SAG-AFTA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), one of the biggest unions in film, was able to reach an agreement with AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers), which represent major studios and broadcast networks. The current contract will expire on the last day of this month. The benefits gained by SAG-AFTA include increases in wages and an increase in residuals from streaming. To read more, click here
Colombia offers tax breaks to increase production from international companies.
The government of Colombia is now offering up to 35% reduction of income tax to film and television producers. The government is hoping that this will increase the amount of production that takes place in the country. Furthermore, the government is offering a rebate of 40% on expenses made during production. LA is allowing TV and film productions to start up again this Friday, June 12, in accordance with state guidelines. Besides tv and film productions, LA is allowing theaters and other businesses to open this Friday. Famous Mexican stars and directors set up a fund for unemployed film workers.
The Mexican Academy of Cinema Arts and Sciences reported that Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman), Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water), and Salma Hayek (Desperado), have raised $440,000 for film workers that are unemployed due to Covid-19. The money will be dispersed through a hierarchy of those who are being affected by Covid-19 the greatest.
