*Job Description: The Chesapeake Bay Foundation seeks a PA GIS Intern to be based at their PA State Office located in Harrisburg. This is a full time unpaid Internship for the Summer of 2015.
THE CHESAPEAKE BAY FOUNDATION
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is the largest regional non-profit conservation organization working solely to save the Bay. Established in 1967, CBF has a staff of approximately 185 employees working in offices in Annapolis Maryland; Richmond and VA Beach, Virginia; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Washington, D.C., and in 15 field education program locations. CONTEXT OF THE POSITION
The PA GIS Intern will focus on regional clean water outreach initiatives in South Central Pennsylvania by working with, shadowing and learning from the CBF PA Staff on effectively, creatively and independently working with ArcGIS software, updating and maintaining ArcGIS databases and creating maps utilizing ArcGIS software.
Essential Functions include:
• Updating and maintaining ArcGIS databases
• Creating, updating, and maintaining maps relating too, but not limited to PA water and land resources, political boundaries, CBF restoration activities, NPDES permits/discharges
• Assist in the development of geospatial information for handbooks, fact sheets, videos, and other materials for printed, electronic, and online use
• Volunteering their time representing CBF at festivals, fairs and events.
• Assist in the development and population of PA Outreach-related databases pertaining to CBF membership, local groups of relevance (e.g., master gardeners, EACs, watershed groups, Trout Unlimited chapters), and pertinent fairs/festivals.
• Ability to think creatively and critically
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently
Qualifications: CBF is looking for an intern with excellent GIS skills and experience. Candidates with environmental science, planning, and geography courses will be preferred. Personal transportation is required.
