Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks is primarily responsible for the provision of a comprehensive system of recreational programs for county residents and the preservation of valuable land in the form of more than 140 parks and sanctuaries. This position will be responsible for a designated region within the county that includes some regional and community parks and sanctuaries. 

This posting will be used to fill a full-time, safety sensitive Naturalist (Sanctuary Education Coordinator). This is work that is responsible for sanctuary educational and interpretive programs. 

Work involves coordinating ecological research studies; developing and implementing a comprehensive wetland education program for professionals, educators, students, volunteers, and the public; teaching; preparing curricula, study plans, and other written educational materials; supervising part-time staff naturalists, volunteers, and student interns; attending and organizing professional conferences; coordinating research fieldwork; and carrying out data analysis, and report writing. 

Work is performed under general supervision. Incumbent in this class performs research and develops Sanctuary educational programs on ecology, natural history, and wetlands and estuarine science for school age children, educators, resource management professionals and special audiences. An incumbent develops training and directs the work of support staff and volunteers for specialized programs and events. Contacts are with educators, community leaders, and other staff members for scheduling field trips and other ecology activities at Jug Bay.

Qualifications Include: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in outdoor education, conservation, biological sciences, natural resources management, environmental science, marine science, or a related field; and three (3) years of experience in nature interpretation, conservation, and teaching natural science, including one ( 1) year of experience in scientific research in field ecology and biology.
