JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Penn State’s Sustainability Institute (SI) is seeking an energetic and innovative entry-level sustainability Programming Coordinator to manage, implement, and help design existing and new student- and public-facing programming that advances understanding of and engagement with sustainability.
SI serves as a shared resource for all Penn State units to help institutionalize sustainability into their teaching, research, student engagement, community and alumni engagement, and operations and to help bring sustainability to communities across Pennsylvania as part of Penn State’s land grant mission. We adopt an expansive definition of sustainability based upon the Global Sustainable Development Goals that aims for social, economic, and environmental sustainability for all. Come join the small but mighty team at the Sustainability Institute to help us fulfill this mission!
SI is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all its forms. By definition, sustainability cannot be achieved unless it is achieved for all people. As such, we believe equity is a core concept of sustainability and all our work, especially our programming, must be inclusive and embrace diversity.
This Sustainability Programming Coordinator position will be responsible for the implementation of many of SI’s existing signature public and campus programs, including, but not limited to:

Additionally, this position will be responsible for developing and fostering relationships with campus and community partners around programming initiatives and for identifying new synergies around programming. The person in this position will also have an opportunity to develop new programming that advances the Sustainability Institute’s strategic goals and engages with our targeted audiences of Penn State students, faculty/staff, alumni, and/or the public.
Professional development opportunities and mentorship will be provided for this position to serve as a career springboard for those interested in fields in sustainability; educational programming; event management; communications; community engagement; and/or higher education.
This is a limited term position, funded for one year from start date, with the potential to renew for an additional year. The position is located at University Park with only occasional minimal travel to Commonwealth Campuses as needed. Occasional night and weekend hours will be required. A flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work may be considered. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.
Education and experience:
