We are recruiting a graduate student assistant for a fully funded 2-year position (including summers!) in the MA in Sustainable Communities at Northern Arizona University.
The position supports a newly funded USDA-NIFA project, “Addressing Barriers to HSI Student Retention through Community Engaged Sustainable Food Systems Education.” The GA-ship will center on hands-on engagement with the development of school gardens in Flagstaff’s public schools. The student’s thesis project could build directly on this work, or could expand to cover a related topic in sustainable food systems or community-engaged pedagogy. Strong Spanish language skills and hands-on gardening experience are particular assets for this position.
A full description is available here (scroll down to “School Gardens GA-ship”). Prospective applicants can direct inquiries to Peter Friederici (peter.friederici@nau.edu), the project PI. Applications are due by February 15th.
This project is part of a growing emphasis on environmental social science and sustainable food systems at NAU. Updated recruitment materials are forthcoming, but in the meantime please refer to the Program in Sustainable Communities, or the MA in Anthropology. In addition to the position listed above, both programs typically have some funding available for well qualified applicants.
