POSITION SUMMARY
TU is seeking a Habitat Project Coordinator for its Pennsylvania Eastern Brook Trout Habitat Initiative. This initiative is focused on reconnecting and restoring Eastern brook trout habitat in priority Pennsylvania watersheds. The position will be based in northcentral Pennsylvania and will focus initially in the West Branch Susquehanna River basin to inventory stream crossings (i.e. road culverts), coordinate fish habitat improvement and stream crossing projects, and conduct pre- and post-construction monitoring.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with project partners and develop new partnerships to identify, initiate, and coordinate specific assessment, restoration, and monitoring projects.
- Coordinate data collection efforts of volunteers, interns, and other partners for stream crossings and maintain a current database.
- Plan and implement the collection of field data at stream crossings, as well as through activities such as electrofishing, benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, water quality sampling, and fish habitat surveys.
- Oversee project implementation, including engineering, design, and construction, when and where appropriate.
- Engage the TU PA state council and chapters and local watershed groups as advocates for projects and project funding.
- Coordinate and implement communications and outreach efforts.
- Work with TU staff on fundraising, including identifying potential funding sources, drafting grant proposals, and developing relationships with funders.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required, with professional experience in project coordination and river restoration.
- Excellent organizational and problem solving abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and supervise multiphase stream restoration projects.
- Experience with technical report and grant writing.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders including government agencies, biologists, volunteers, and landowners.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Passion for protecting and restoring trout populations and their watersheds.
