Dickinson College Farm Program Outreach Coordinator

Overview:

This rotating yearlong full-time position will afford a DC grad with a unique opportunity to continue their connection with the College Farm and regional local food initiatives while developing professional skills in educational programming, program management and communications. A recent graduate who has been connected or employed at the College Farm has a vested interest in the program and established campus connections that will allow them to thrive in this position. The Program Outreach Coordinator will be supervised by the Farm’s Director who will ensure the positions success through empowerment and support.

Details:

A successful candidate will have:

  • Strong professional development interest in farm/food oriented communications, education and outreach programming
  • Previous involvement with the College Farm or other farming experience
  • Desire to delve deeper into food studies initiatives
  • Ideas for serving as an effective liaison between the College Farm and campus departments and programs
  • Foundational knowledge and skills with social media upkeep, web programming and video-based projects

Position Description:

  1. Support the College Farm’s Youth Education Programs (D.I.G SEED & F,C,E)
    1. Provide logistical and program development support to student coordinators in charge of SEED and F,C,E
    2. Support Camp D.I.G planning and implementation on an as needed basis
    3. Oversee media/advertising details for successfully promoting these programs including registration details
  2. Coordinate Sustainability School Workshop Programs
    1. Develop and organize year-long calendar of monthly farm-based workshops that are open to the campus community and general public
    2. Secure presenters for each workshop and coordinate logistics pertinent to each workshop
    3. Oversee media/advertising details for successfully promoting these programs including registration details
    4. Provide logistical support on day of event
  3. Serve as Dining Services Liaison on Farm Labelling and Marketing
    1. Work with Dining Services staff to ensure proper labeling is in place
    2. Develop awareness building programs with the support of Dining Services staff on the topic of local food and the connection with the College Farm using various media outlets
    3. Serve as College Farm representative on Sustainable Food Committee
  4. Oversee and promote campus-based awareness of the College Farm
    1. Work with campus departments to ensure proper materials are in place for building farm awareness
    2. Coordinate and lead quarterly tours of the College Farm for interested staff, faculty and students
    3. Design and update farm posters, brochures, etc. for use on campus
    4. Assist with presentation requests from campus and greater Carlisle community
    5. Develop web-based informational videos about the College Farm for campus-wide promotion
  5. Support College Farm Administrative Assistant with Social Media updates on blog, Instagram and Facebook
  6. Support Farm Staff with existing and on-going campus programs like POP, the HUB Stand, Local Food Dinner, etc.
  7. Assist College Farm Staff with Friday CSA set-up on campus during summer months
  8. Provide hands-on support to College Farm through field work once per week for half a day

Compensation:

This one year, full-time position includes a competitive salary that includes a living allowance for housing in or around Carlisle. These details are still being ironed out with more information available upon request. In addition, the Coordinator position will receive a complimentary CSA share (30 weeks) with access to farm storage crops on an as needed basis.
