This staff position will be responsible for providing sustainable land management services, advice and coordination to landowners and partners in the Virginia Piedmont. The primary objective of this program is to improve wildlife habitat and water quality in a region containing a vibrant matrix of working private lands, punctuated by significant blocks of public lands including Shenandoah National Park. The Program Manager will promote practices such as field mowing management, field-to-forest transition zones, water quality management, creation and maintenance of native species hedgerows, brush piles and other habitat, restoration of waterways for aquatic species, invasive species control, and creation of a managed landscape such as pollinator gardens.
The Agriculture and Rural Economy Program Manager will report to the Vice President for Conservation and Rural Programs and will oversee our efforts on programs in support of the rural and agricultural economy of the region. PEC’s Agriculture and Rural Economy program integrates our work with new and beginning farmers, established farming operations, connections between producers and consumers, and our broad conservation mission. The position will be based at PEC’s main office in Warrenton, Virginia, but will include travel throughout our nine county region.
