Stipend Volunteers are sought for the Chesapeake Conservation Corps
The Chesapeake Bay Trust is proud to announce that applicants are being sought for the 2015-16 Chesapeake Conservation Corps Program, a program that provides service-learning opportunities and green job training for young people through environmental and energy conservation projects. The Trust matches young adults 18-25 with Maryland nonprofits and government agencies to work fulltime in the environmental field for a year ($16,000 annually). This initiative, supported by the Trust, Constellation Energy, National Park Service and the state of Maryland, pairs young adults with organizations that provide hands-on environmental, leadership, and technical training opportunities for a one-year term of service.
The purpose of the Corps is 1) to enable young adults to work with host organizations and communities throughout Maryland to implement environmental stewardship and energy conservation projects, and 2) to provide leadership and training opportunities for young adults pursuing environmental and conservation careers. Corps volunteers will work full-time on projects in the realms of environmental restoration, energy conservation, agriculture, forestry, environmental education and community engagement that will promote and sustain the Bay and its surrounding environment as well as provide young adults with the opportunities to gain career skills and become more engaged through meaningful community service.
Not only are placed Corps Volunteers working full-time in the environmental field for a year, but the Program also includes a number of other components and opportunities including participating in conferences, professional development trainings, grant funding, site visits to fellow Corps sites, project management and so on all culminating into an array of leadership, networking, experience, skill-building and professional growth.
The Chesapeake Bay Trust anticipates placing around 25-30 Corps Volunteers, young adults 18-25, with nonprofit organizations and government agencies throughout Maryland for a paid year of service ($16,000) beginning on August 25, 2015.
Applications due on April 17, 2015 to estransky@cbtrust.org.
