Training and experiences will be provided in the following areas:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">collecting \/ rearing (15%)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">specimen preparation and collection conservation (20%)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">collection digitization, including relevant data standards (55%)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">collections advocacy, policies, and management (3%)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">public engagement (7%)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Required Skills and Experience:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><i>Careful handling and attention to detail.<\/i>\u00a0Interns will work with small and incredibly fragile objects, each with many kinds of data that must be recorded and tracked. Dexterity and situational awareness are required.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><i>Ability to stay focused.<\/i>\u00a0Specimen digitization can be repetitive, but accurate data collection and transcription are required to contribute credible records to global data aggregators.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><i>Curiosity about the natural world.<\/i>\u00a0We\u2019re looking for interns who will fully engage with the work, asking questions along the way.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><i>Commitment to science.\u00a0<\/i>These specimens are used extensively in research, across many domains. Interns should be facilitative, organized, and goal-oriented.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><i>Comfort in nature<\/i>. Field work may happen in muddy, wild habitats, where ticks are common.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><i>Familiarity with insect taxonomy<\/i>. Ability to sight identify specimens, even to a higher-level taxon (order or family), will help us be efficient in all tasks.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Compensation:<\/div>\n<div>Wage is set at $17.50\/hour, with an expectation of about 40 hours worked per week.
