The Xerces Society is a growing nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting wildlife through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitat. We take action by protecting endangered species and their habitat, producing ground-breaking publications on insect conservation, training thousands of farmers and land managers to protect and manage habitat for beneficial insects, and raising public awareness about the invertebrates of forests, prairies, deserts, creeks, wetlands, and oceans.<\/p>\n<p>WHAT YOU\u2019LL BE DOING: You\u2019ll be joining a growing team of professionals working to conserve some of the world\u2019s most important animals. The Xerces Society manages the largest and most advanced pollinator conservation program in the world and we offer unparalleled career opportunities for participating in some of the most innovative wildlife conservation happening today. Bee Better Certified\u2122 is a first of its kind 3rd party food and farm certification program focused on pollinator conservation. It is designed to help reward conservation-minded farmers, increase ecosystem services provided to crops, and increase a farms\u2019 capacity to sustain wildlife, including pollinators.<\/p>\n<p>The program is slated to launch in the spring of 2017, and has initial backing from a number of major food industry partners and a National Conservation Innovation Grant from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Under the direction of the Bee Better Certified lead, this position will support the management of Xerces\u2019 new, cutting-edge certification program Bee Better Certified\u2122. The Administrator will track farmers moving through the certification process and help manage logistics for outreach to new and existing stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>The Program Administrator will also respond to inquiries about the program, provide administrative support to Xerces remote staff, and implement processes and procedures to improve the functioning of the certification program. In carrying out these activities, the Program Administrator will collaborate closely with Oregon Tilth (Bee Better Certified\u2019s third party inspection body), farmers, and ingredient sourcing and purchasing specialists at some of the world\u2019s largest food companies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILTIES: This is a national level position that collaborates closely with Xerces Society staff in the pollinator and pesticide programs, as well as with corporate partners across the U.S. Strong writing, outreach, and organizational skills are required for this position. Successful candidates should also have experience developing and managing databases. Working under the direction of the Bee Better Certified lead, the Program Administrator will: \u2022 Develop a comprehensive database to manage farms going through the certification process. \u2022 Help develop the certification\u2019s internal infrastructure. \u2022 Track metrics related to Bee Better Certified and develop reports for Xerces and the Bee Better Certified Advisory Board. \u2022 Work to refer farmers to Oregon Tilth, our third party certification partner organization, once they have completed their Bee Better Certified Conservation plan. \u2022 Participate in the review of large-scale habitat restoration and pesticide mitigation plans designed to help farms meet the Bee Better Certified production standards. \u2022 Help conduct outreach and education to existing and potential partners and farmers. \u2022 Work with Xerces\u2019 Communications team to create or maintain Bee Better Certified\u2019s webpage and social media accounts and on development of outreach materials. \u2022 Organize and support regular meetings with the Bee Better Certified Advisory Board. \u2022 Organize and support meetings, workshops, and outreach events with food industry stakeholders. This job will require some travel, and frequent communication with a remotely-based supervisor and\/or co-workers.<\/p>\n<p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE: The successful candidate for this position must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, ability to develop and manage databases, and be capable of organizing meetings and presenting information to high-level stakeholders. The candidate should have a strong track record of managing large-scale projects and database systems, as well as knowledge of web- and social-media based platforms. Knowledge and experience in certification systems, crop pollination, on-farm habitat restoration, ecology, or related fields are also desirable.<\/p>\n<p>QUALIFICATIONS: \u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree (or higher) in business administration, ecology, conservation biology, agriculture, entomology, or natural resource management, or 3\u20135 years experience in conservation science, certification programs, sustainable sourcing initiatives and\/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. \u2022 Ability to manage complex or multiple projects. \u2022 Ability to synthesize, interpret, and communicate Bee Better Certified\u2019s production standards to facilitate farmer adoption. \u2022 Ability to communicate professionally with a wide variety of people\u00a0\u2022 Ability to manage time and diverse activities under deadlines, while delivering quality results. \u2022 Ability to work independently on assigned tasks. \u2022 Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Web browsers). \u2022 Experience working with database systems (e.g., Microsoft Access). \u2022 Experience in maintaining and updating website content.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: \u2022 Knowledge of certification programs. \u2022 Business administration and\/or prior entrepreneurial experience (of any kind). \u2022 Background in marketing and negotiating professional consulting services. \u2022 Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite and ability to follow Xerces\u2019 communications guidelines. \u2022 Experience with basic web video production and editing. \u2022 Experience with outreach via social media. \u2022 Understanding of bee-pollinated crop systems. \u2022 Basic knowledge of common agricultural pests, insecticides, and pest management systems.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: \u2022 Able to sit or stand at desk\/workstation for periods up to 8 hours.<\/p>\n<p>STATUS AND COMPENSATION: \u2022 $18.27-$21.63 per hour (approximately $38,000- $45,000 annually), commensurate with experience. \u2022 Non-Exempt\/Hourly. \u2022 Position is a regular, full-time position, scheduled to work 40 hours\/week. BENEFITS: This position includes a generous benefits package: eleven paid holidays, paid time off, paid health and disability insurance, option to participate in a pre-tax flexible spending account for medical and dependent care expenses, participation in a 401k retirement program upon eligibility and a flexible work environment.
