This dedicated grassroots army is matched by a respected staff oforganizers, lawyers, policy experts and scientists, who work out of more than 30 offices. Our mission is to conserve, protect and restore North America\u2019s coldwater fisheries and their watersheds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoBodyText\"><strong>Position Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoBodyText\">Trout Unlimited (TU) is seeking qualified individuals to serve as full-time biological field interns from mid-May to August 2017 for the Pennsylvania Cold water Habitat Restoration Program. TU&#8217;s Pennsylvania Cold water Habitat Restoration Program targets the improvement of cold water habitat viability and availability for native brook trout across the commonwealth. To accomplish this, TU staff work to improve water quality through abandoned coal mine cleanup; reduce non-point source sediment pollution through stream bank stabilization, riparian reforestation, installation of in stream habitat structures, and improvement of dirt and gravel roads; increase flood resiliency and aquatic organism passage through addressing problematic road-stream crossings. The Biological field Intern positions are based out of TU&#8217;s field office in Lock Haven, PA, and will report directly to the Field and Research Manager for daily work tasks, but will coordinate and work on projects as a team member with all staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoBodyText\"><strong>Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Collect field data through activities such as electro fishing, benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, water quality sampling, and fish habitat surveys.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Provide data entry and database management, as well as prepare maps and assistwith reports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Attend meetings of TU chapters, watershed groups, and other partnering groups as needed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Provide assistance to other program staff as needed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><strong>Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Excellent organizational and time management skills<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Demonstrated ability to work effectively as both a team player and independently.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Willingness to travel (frequently overnight) and be capable of hiking and carrying equipment in difficult terrain and working in inclement conditions and remote locations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Valid driver&#8217;s license.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Passion for protecting and restoring trout populations and their watersheds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Compensation<\/h3>\n<p class=\"x_MsoBodyText\">The intern will be compensated with a stipend of $4,300 for a 12 week term. \u00a0If the intern is unable towork the full 12 weeks, the stipend amount will be amended accordingly.
