Both positions would focus on interdisciplinary research in South Greenland. Students would earn a degree through the interdisciplinary\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/ecologyandenvironmentalsciences\/\" href=\"https:\/\/umaine.edu\/ecologyandenvironmentalsciences\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"1\">Ecology &amp; Environmental Science<\/a>\u00a0program at\u00a0<span data-markjs=\"true\">UMaine<\/span>. Both students would be co-mentored by\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/climatechange.umaine.edu\/people\/jasmine-saros\/\" href=\"https:\/\/climatechange.umaine.edu\/people\/jasmine-saros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"2\">Dr. Jasmine Saros<\/a>and\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/climatechange.umaine.edu\/people\/Kiley-Daley\/\" href=\"https:\/\/climatechange.umaine.edu\/people\/Kiley-Daley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"3\">Dr. Kiley Daley<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>1. MS student: This student would conduct a project contributing to the understanding of freshwater use among sheep farming communities in South Greenland within a changing climate. The student would combine water resource management methods, such as mapping and scenario modeling, with local and Indigenous knowledge to identify areas of concern for sheep farmers and\u00a0address related\u00a0research questions. We are seeking a student with a bachelor\u2019s degree in environmental studies, geography (including some human geography courses), ecology, environmental sciences, or a related field with a strong interest in interdisciplinary work. Working closely and developing partnerships with local sheep farmers will be an important aspect of this project. As such,\u00a0professional experience (volunteer or employment) working in a community engagement role is considered a strong asset. Kiley Daley (<a title=\"mailto:kiley.daley@maine.edu\" href=\"mailto:kiley.daley@maine.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"4\">kiley.daley@maine.edu<\/a>) would serve at the primary advisor for this student.<\/p>\n<p>2. Ph.D. student: This student would conduct an interdisciplinary project to decipher patterns in and drivers of lake ice phenology and thermal structure in South Greenland. The student would integrate paleolimnology, lake ecology, remote sensing, and Indigenous &amp; local knowledge to address research questions. We are seeking a student primarily focused on limnology for this project, with a strong and demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary work. A Master\u2019s degree and\/or additional experience beyond the B.S. degree preferred. Jasmine Saros (<a title=\"mailto:jasmine.saros@maine.edu\" href=\"mailto:jasmine.saros@maine.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-safelink=\"true\" data-linkindex=\"5\">jasmine.saros@maine.edu<\/a>) would serve as the primary advisor for this student.<\/p>\n<p>Students in this program will receive an annual stipend plus tuition, fees, and health insurance coverage.
