I didn\u2019t know that Louise would have reading hands. She has translated me into her own book&#8221; (89).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I believe the passage is about secrecy and the fear of secret thoughts becoming\u00a0known. The first part of the passage indicates the\u00a0narrator\u2019s\u00a0\u201crules\u201d\u00a0for thoughts to remain secret. The second part of the passage, specifically the words \u201cI didn\u2019t know\u201d and \u201cher own book\u201d,\u00a0depict the unexpected reality of their thoughts and\u00a0self\u00a0being discovered. When the narrator states, \u201cnever unfold too much, tell the whole story\u201d, it indicates the fear of letting their loved one in, yet we (strangers)\u00a0are able to\u00a0read their whole story\u00a0(89). Additionally,\u00a0the second\u00a0part of the passage indicates that Louise views the narrator\u00a0how\u00a0she wants to view them.\u00a0As secretive as the narrative is with her thoughts, they are also made very public to the readers that can also be interpreted so\u00a0differently.\u00a0I\u00a0was reading the novel as the narrator\u2019s diary, filled with thoughts\u00a0not\u00a0wanting to be publicly known to those around her. It speaks to the level of comfort the narrator has with the reader, but not with those around her.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a little ironic that the narrator implies the idea of secrecy and \u201cnever telling the whole story\u201d because\u00a0<i>Written on the Body<\/i>\u00a0is essentially written by the third party of the affair (the cheater rather than the cheated on).\u00a0 This perspective is different from most other stories as we are used to hearing or reading the perspective of someone who\u2019s been cheated on, not the one who\u2019s doing the cheating.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cNever unfold too much, tell the whole story.
