A Poem for the Loving<\/em> Living
\nInspired by Qwo-li Driskill<\/p>\n

Here’s to all the shady queens and bull dykes
\nThe radical faeries and radical theorists,
\nThe queer and now,
\nTo the past, present, and future of queer history<\/em> theory lives<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Give us our flowers while we are still here, instead of the thorns
\nDrawing scarlet blood from wounds not deep enough to prick,
\nBut deep enough to scar.<\/p>\n

We put on our lipstick, red, like war paint, and dance to the cries of change.
\n“It’s not my revolution if I can’t dance” and oh, the battle cries are singing
\nsongs of melancholy joy,
\nechoing.
\nA whisper in the wind reverberates<\/p>\n

“Never again”
\nNever again
\nNever again\u2026 until the next time<\/p>\n

And then it’s a shame<\/em>
\nA tragedy, they died too soon
\nAs the crocodile tears roll down
\nthe faces of those who pushed them off the bridge into the Hudson,
\nthe real mourning goes on
\nbehind the scenes.
\n<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The performance isn’t a show, but a life
\nlost to the cruel powers that be.
\nIt hurts, searing like a knife,
\nstabbing the scab half healed,
\nbreaking open old wounds and killing hope<\/p>\n

Yet, change is brewing,
\nStrong enough to break the walls of their stoney hearts.<\/p>\n

We remain.
\nWe will remember.
\nWe will mourn.
\nWe will laugh.
\nWe will love.
\nWe will live,
\nin spite of and to spite those who want us dead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
