89-year-old Agnes Varda, one of the leading figures of the French New
\nWave, and acclaimed 33-year-old French photographer and muralist JR
\nteamed up to co-direct this enchanting documentary\/road movie.
\nKindred spirits, Varda and JR share a lifelong passion for images and
\nhow they are created, displayed and shared. Together they travel
\naround the villages of France in JR\u2019s photo truck meeting locals,
\nlearning their stories and producing epic-size portraits of them. The
\nphotos are prominently displayed on houses, barns, storefronts and
\ntrains, revealing the humanity in their subjects, and in themselves.
\nFaces Places documents these heart-warming encounters as well as
\nthe unlikely, tender friendship they form along the way. At the same
\ntime, the film documents the passage of time and the nature of
\nmemory, and serves as a moving elegy to the fate of the European
\nworking class. Faces Places has already won awards at Cannes and at
\nthe Toronto Film Festival.<\/p>\n
