I think of this past winter break and the ways food has been a point of connection for me. At my Nana’s house, we talked over a cup of coffee and piece of chocolate. I prepared scones for New Years Day for my family, inviting my sisters to join me in the process. We all spent a few minutes that morning together at the kitchen table- a moment that doesn’t happen often in our busy house, but when it does, it is special. Towards the end of break, I wanted to celebrate familial connection with a nearly symbolic dinner. I wanted a meal that was a time for us all to sit down together and connect over our food. I crafted us a variety of dishes, from soup to salad, a main course and a finishing small dessert. Food represents a shared experience within my household that is our source of connection.<\/p>\n
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-830\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6017-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6017-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6017-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6017-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6017-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6017-676x901.jpg 676w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6017-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-832\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_5097-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_5097-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_5097-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_5097-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_5097-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_5097-676x901.jpg 676w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_5097-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-833\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6446-scaled-e1740595814649-278x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"278\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6446-scaled-e1740595814649-278x300.jpg 278w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6446-scaled-e1740595814649-949x1024.jpg 949w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6446-scaled-e1740595814649-768x829.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6446-scaled-e1740595814649-1424x1536.jpg 1424w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6446-scaled-e1740595814649-676x729.jpg 676w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/foodstudies\/files\/2025\/02\/IMG_6446-scaled-e1740595814649.jpg 1787w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 278px) 100vw, 278px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
To me, food represents a connection to myself, my friends, and my family.
